Iron (transferrin) % saturation is calculated by an equation using plasma iron and transferrin. TIBC is a calculated parameter derived from the transferrin plasma concentration. In hereditary hemochromatosis, serum iron is usually > 150 μg/dL and iron (transferrin) saturation is greater than 60%.

The Transferrin Saturation test determines an individual's iron status by using the ratio of serum iron concentration to the total iron binding capacity (TIBC) as a percentage. This test provides insights into how much iron in the blood is bound to transferrin, a glycoprotein responsible for transporting iron around the body. The percentage of transferrin saturation can increase or decrease based on the body's iron status, making it a valuable metric for assessing iron-related conditions.

Biotin supplements:
